On the calendar of Saints for the Russian Orthodox Church, one of the Saints commemorated today is as notable a figure as the Russian Church produced in the 19th Century, and some would say in his history.
born Prokhor Moshnin (Прохор Мошнин) Was born July 30th on our calendar, but on the unrevised calendar of the Russian Church the date was July 11th (Old Style), in Kursk. He would enter the Sarov Monastery when he was 19 in 1777, and remain there until his death January 14, 1833. With the additional day's slippage due to another century, Old Style the date was January 2, which became his major feast when he was canonized by the Russian Church in 1903.
